Gotta Love Flowcharts

Here’s Meg’s Charm’s flowchart, hopefully I can get it all finished soon so there woun’t be any 404 or wrong content pages. There is a lot to do! Since I changed the layout all of the sizes of the images have changed so there’s resizing, making image links and putting up the rest of the content. It will be nice to finish the rest of the website!

p.s .I might not get a lot done next week due to 5 days of overnighters at work /sigh

All the pretty colors

These have been my favorite colors for the past 6+ months. I especially love the blues! The orange is only secondary, and it helps the blue pop!  You can tell that I really dig these colors just by looking at the colors on my blog. I was thinking of making one or two of the wall in my office the middle color blue and then accent it with orange with in the room. It would make the room more attractive and fun.

For color inspiration I go to kuler, thank you graphic design teacher. Its a simple way to get colors together to see what they would look like. They also have users putting together pallets for others to see.  I prefer this website over other color pallettes sites because it gives you a lot of customizing options when others don’t. Its  interesting that the first two highest rated pallettes are quite similar to each other. I wonder what that says about us and what colors we like.

Minecraft wallpaper

1680 x 1050

I worked on this wall paper a couple weeks ago,and I’ve had the idea for quite a while. It’s based off the game Minecraft and an item in the game is a cake that you can craft and gives you health.  I pretty much like it the way it is now,but I’ve also played around with idea of instead of the “war”it would be the TNT block from the game.

Feel free to use this as your wallpaper, but please don’t steal it and make it your own.

Hello Internet

It’s been a while, hasn’t it? I have started working on changing my blog around trying to make it more fresh and modern. Really what happened is that I updated my old blog theme and it screwed everything up. Then they wanted money to answer questions and to become a “gold member”and I said “Hell No”to that. So here I am change my blog all over again, but its for the better! I like this new look, especially the banner.

I have a lot to updating to do plus I have something cool I want to post,  but I have class in about 30 mins. For now I’ll give you a photo taken at Tim’s grandma’s ranch  place in Springville,Ca. I love this photo!

p.s. Since I changed the layout on  my blog there are a few wonky things I need to work out.

Just two photos

I found my camera! We moved almost a month ago and everything is still in boxes. When I found it I promptly started taking photos. Above is the view outside my kitchen window. I love the curtains Tim’s mom gave us for this window,it goes with the look of the kitchen. Yep,thats a tether ball out there, you know you’re jealous.

Interwebs meet Dack,Dack meet interwebs. We have a new addition to our family. We couldn’t pass up the chance to take home a kitty as lovable and cute as this one. Named after a Star Wars character (Tim’s choice) its fitting that we call him Dack Attack. He jumps on to our laps any chance he gets and pesters our other cat,Flower non stop. The only thing is that he has a stinky butt, but we still love him just the same.

Cheap Holidays

Christmas is going to be here in a blink of an eye. For some of you it’s already here (just look in the department stores).  So much planning goes into this one holiday we get stressed out and we need all the help we can get. I’ve been thinking of good ideas for the season that cost very little out of pocket. There are a lot of people who can’t give a lot but want to still make this time with their family special. This is a year to save money!

Tim’s has decided to do a Secret Santa this year. This is a great idea because you only have to buy one present and everyone still gets a present. We made a $20 limit so we don’t try and spend too much on each other.

Book Lovers Bookmark by BlumyCreative’s shop

My original idea was to make everyone a book mark with their name on it and some cool typography. I would use some of the stuff that I already have i.e. ribbon and dried flowers to make it a bit fancier. For some fonts www.dafont.com is a good place to go.

Cinnamon and Strawberry Thumbprint Cookies by saoirseangel

One year I made a big batch of cookies for everyone. I don’t remember how many I made, but I remember having a tone left over. I bought colored stretch wrap and some ribbon then tied it up in a little baggy with 3-5 cookies for each person. You don’t even have to put names on them, just hand them out!

These are just some of my ideas;here are some great resources for your budgeted holiday season.

  • Etsy – I have always loved them for gifts and inspiration.
  • Disney Family Fun-Surprisingly good source for gift ideas.
  • Buynothingchristmas- They have 59 good ideas all based off of not buying anything.
  • Cafepress- This a good place to buy cheap items buy artists for the whole family.

Happy Holidays from Meg’s Charm <3

Love for Bugs and Monsters

I was looking around Etsy last night and felt that I had to share some finds from Bugs and Monsters. This seller makes all kinds of things, but I like the mugs the most. The seller hand paints mugs from thrift stores with original designs. What a cool way to recycle and make art!

Real World Job

This was my first “real world”graphic design work. Commissioned through ADS Media Group to do a poster for the Saucy September Evening. Which was also converted into a flyer and an ad  for Valley Voice.  I was just happy to have an actual paying job and put it in my portfolio. I finished the poster over a week ago but made the ad this morning. Let me know if  you see any of these posters around town so I can go check it out for myself!

As a side note,I’m working on the photo and (soon to come) graphic design portion of my website. Please be patient while I get everything set up,nice and pretty.

PS If anyone needs any graphic work done let me know,I can help you out!

Who is Lola?

Frida with Dry Tree Branches,Coyoacan (1943)

We know the lady in the photo as the famous painter Frida Kahlo, but who is the person behind the camera taking the pictures?  Lola Alvarez Bravo a female Mexican photographer who took many photos of Frida, nudes and social subjects in Mexico.

“Lola Alvarez Bravo (1903–1993) is widely recognized as Mexico’s first woman photographer. A pioneering figure in the rise of modernist photography in Mexico, she was a profound humanist who used the camera to chronicle the people and places of her beloved country over a remarkable six-decade career.” source

“I look for the essence of beings and of things, their spirit, their reality. Interest, experience, moral and aesthetic commitment, form the third eye of the photographer. There are those who focus on the landscape;I feel attracted to human beings.” —Lola
